Summer Reading!

This summer, the library's Summer Reading classes invite dreamers to let their imagination soar to the stars! Learn and have fun all summer long with stories, crafts, games, and special classes.


Kids: Dream Big, READ!
"Dream Big, READ!" classes are open to all elementary school age children (K-5) and admission is free.

June 8 – Do You Believe in Magic?
Ever wonder how the magicians do it? Watch a magic show, learn a trick of your own, and create a magic craft.

June 15 – Out of this World
Take a trek to outer space! Have fun learning about the constellations and listening to stories about space adventures. Make your own space craft.

June 22 – Speed Star!
What is sport stacking? Learn how to use Speed Stacks, specially designed cups which can be stacked in specific patterns, as you race against the clock.

June 29 – "Whoo" is Awake at Night?
Learn about nocturnal animals in Florida when the Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park brings live animals to the library for an educational presentation. Listen to an owl story and make an owl craft.

July 6 – The Adventures of Sparkles
Meet Sparkles the Elf and learn about her magical adventures. Create a fantastical craft and dream up your own adventure.

July 13 – Rock Stars!
Do you dream of being a musician? Attend a concert by teen rock band Zero Gravity and learn what it takes to become a real rock star.

July 20 – Night at the Circus
What can be made with balloons? Find out as you watch balloon twisting. Learn about other amazing skills as you enjoy a circus story and have fun making a clown craft.

July 27 – Follow that Dream
The Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park will present an educational program about cranes. Learn about these beautiful birds and efforts to save the cranes. Make a crane craft.

Celebrate sweet dreams at our summer finale pajama party. Wear your PJs and bring your favorite stuffed animal. Enjoy bedtime stories, learn games, and create a dreamy craft. No snoring allowed!

Central Ridge Library
THURSDAYS, 10:30-11:30

June 29, July 6, & July 13, 12:30 – 2pm
Just Bead It!
Tweens and teens are invited to get creative at this jewelry-making and beading workshop sponsored by the Friends of the Central Ridge Library.
Materials are provided. Attendance is limited and registration by staff is required to ensure availability of materials. Please sign up at the Customer Service Desk.

 


Coastal Region Library
TUESDAYS, 2:00-4:00pm

June 5 – Wii Rock!
Improve your gaming skills and collaborate with teammates to win. Rock out on Rock Band and race your friends on Mario Kart. Snacks provided by the Friends of the Coastal Region Library.

June 12 – Light Up the Night
Learn the science behind what makes things glow in the dark and make your own glow-in-the-dark necklace or keychain.

June 19 – "Nights and Bolts" Steampunk Jewelry
Design and create a unique piece of Steampunk jewelry inspired by the popular trend in books, fashion, art, & design. Steampunk began as a literary subgenre of Science Fiction and features a mix of Victorian-era elegance and modern technology. Think brass, copper, gears, clocks, and polished wood!

June 26 – Sweet Dreams
Do you know what your dreams mean? Complete a cool dream journal filled with your list of wishes, best dreams, greatest night songs, favorite night locations, dreamiest bedtime reads, and more. Learn what your dreams could mean!

July 3 – Goodnight Greetings
Use your imagination and design “dreamy” greeting cards using creative decorative materials. Learn to use rubber stamps, ribbons, scrapbooking techniques, and special glow-in-the-dark materials.

July 10 – Peace Out, Man!
Feel the groovy vibes! Take a trip back in time to the funky 70s and create a fun-to-color velvet art peace sign pencil holder.

July 17 – Rockin' Out Jam Session
Bring your musical instrument, take turns on the piano, and jam with other musicians. Snacks provided by the Friends of the Coastal Region Library.

July 24 – Hang Out
Do you like things that glow in the dark? Do you need to keep siblings out of your room? Let your creativity “hang out” and make a glow-in-the-dark door hanger for your room.

 


Floral City Public Library

June 7 – "Nights and Bolts" Steampunk Jewelry
Design and create a unique piece of Steampunk jewelry inspired by the popular trend in books, fashion, art, & design. Steampunk began as a literary subgenre of Science Fiction and features a mix of Victorian-era elegance and modern technology. Think brass, copper, gears, clocks, and polished wood!

June 14 – Creatures of the Night
Bring alive your own creature by making a Thai String Doll - a doll made from one string of continuous thread! Seem impossible? Come and give it a go.

June 21 – Evening of Relaxation
Relax, meditate, and chill the night away. We’ll share recipes for making bath salts and chilly treats, and you’ll learn restful and soothing relaxation exercises.

June 28 – Midnight Murder Mystery
There has been a murder in the library. Act out the starring roles and help solve the mystery. You’ll also learn great detective skills and tricks of the trade.

July 5 – Light Up the Night
Light up your night by making glow-in-the-dark beads created out of rolled recycled paper strung in patterns to make stunning bracelets and necklaces that GLOW!

July 12 – Once Upon a Dream
We provide the materials - you provide the dreams. Complete a dream journal filled with your list of wishes, best dreams, greatest night songs, first-rate night movies, favorite night locations, dreamiest bedtime reads, and more.

July 19 – Knight Time
Hark! A medieval festival of activities. Put on your Knight moves and dance with balloon swords, conquer the dragon, and learn to juggle like a jester with juggling balls you create.

July 26 – Night of Nonsense
Mad lib stories, recycled book crafts, practical pranks, and silly games. It’s a whole lot of nonsense!

 


Homosassa Public Library
WEDNESDAYS, 3:30-5:00pm

June 6 – Jazzy Jewelry
Learn about jewelry and put your imagination to work as you design and create your own unique piece of jewelry. Make rainbow bracelets or Steampunk-inspired jewelry and learn about the history of jewelry-making.

June 13 – Be a Star!
Show the galaxy that you’re a supernova super star as you and your friends share the spotlight and sing your favorite karaoke songs. No gravity can hold you down!

June 20 – Out in Space
Take an interstellar journey through outer space with books and activities. Remember Star Wars? Make your own Yoda hat. (Do or do not - there is no try!)

June 27 – Gaming Day and Night
Improve your gaming skills and learn how to make strategic and tactical decisions as you collaborate with teammates to win. Play Wii and your favorite board games with friends and conquer mazes, word searches, and crossword puzzles.

July 4 – Independence Day, all libraries closed.

July 11 – Light Up the Night
Join in the fun with glow-in-the-dark activities and light up your night by decorating your own mini tote bag, creating glow stars, and having a blast with glowsticks.

Read this summer for a chance to win a new bicycle, courtesy of Homosassa Wal-Mart!

Beginning May 25th and ending July 13th, pick up your entry form at the library each week, then fill in the blanks and return it to your library. 

Only one entry form per week is allowed, for a total of 8 entries. Winners are determined by a random drawing and notified by telephone. Contest is open to all children and teens in grades K-12 with a valid library card.
