Getting Started with Computers I

This is the first of a two part class that will introduce you to the components of a computer, operating systems, computer programs and applications, and how to use the mouse and the keyboard to give commands and receive information from the computer. The two classes will also cover the basics of creating, editing, saving and printing files. We will be using the Windows 7 Operating System in a Desktop system. Prerequisites: None, though a basic knowledge of a typewriter keyboard is helpful.

Getting Started with Computers II

This is the second of a two part class that will introduce you to the components of a computer, operating systems, computer programs and applications, and how to use the mouse and the keyboard to give commands and receive information from the computer. The two classes will also cover the basics of creating, editing, saving and printing files. We will be using the Windows 7 Operating System in a Desktop system. Prerequisites: Participation in Getting Started with Computers I and a basic knowledge of a typewriter keyboard are strongly encouraged.

Basic Computer Maintenance
In this class you will learn how to properly set up and maintain your computer. You will learn how to physically keep the equipment clean and create a safe working environment. You willalso learn how to maintain your hard drive and optimize your computer's performance.  Prerequisite: Getting Started with Computers.

Web Browsing: Getting Started
The class will introduce you to fundamental procedures for manipulating information searches on the web—how to locate your browser, start and run a search engine, direct and evaluate information searches, and how to keep the useful information at hand. Prerequisites: Getting Started with Computers, strong keyboard and mouse skills.

Gmail: Getting an Account
This brief class covers the process for setting up a Gmail account. Prerequisite: Web Browsing: Getting Started or equivalent computer skills. Strong keyboard and mouse skills.

Gmail: Getting Started
This class covers the basic of using a Gmail account, including creating and sending messages, receiving messages, attaching files to a message, opening attachments, adding labels, finding messages, adding addresses to the contacts list, and retrieving addresses from the contacts list. Prerequisites: Gmail: Getting an Account or an existing Gmail account. Web Browsing: Getting Started or equivalent computer skills. Strong keyboard and mouse skills.

Computer Safety Online
This class will present an overview of how to protect your computer and yourself while using the Internet. Topics discussed will include antivirus programs, spyware, firewalls, Trojan horses, phishing, email scams, and malware. You will learn how to spot potential problems and how to protect your computer.  Prerequisite: Web Browsing: Getting Started.

Word: Getting Started
This class introduces Microsoft Word and what can be done with this versatile word processing program. You will learn how to use the Menu and Tool bars, Spell Check, the Help menu, create and save documents, open existing documents, and copy and paste techniques. Prerequisites: Getting Started with Computers or equivalent computer skills, strong keyboard and mouse skills.

Word: Formatting and Styles
Using the basics learned in Word: Getting Started, this class covers the basic style and formatting tools available in Microsoft Word which allow you to create and save endless style variations and control your styles with greater precision. Prerequisite: Word: Getting Started.

Word: Templates & Themes
This class explores several of the templates that come with Microsoft Word, how to use these to create new documents using the formatting and styles in these templates, and themes which aid in applying styles to your documents. Prerequisite: Word: Formatting & Styles.

Ask a Master Gardener

Discuss gardening questions and concerns with a Master Gardener. These classes are free and offer timely gardening and landscaping information. Bring your questions, samples, or specimens as you learn about Florida gardening and environment.

Tai Chi

The low impact Tai Chi classes encourage, share, and enhance the knowledge about health benefits that the ancient art of Tai Chi offers. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese discipline that involves a continuous series of generally controlled slow movements to improve one’s balance and overall health.

Tai Chi is an exercise of controlled movements with deep breathing. It improves balance, flexibility, and lowers blood pressure.

Tai Chi for Seniors: A class that encourages, shares, and enhances the practice and knowledge of the health benefits of the ancient art of Tai Chi. Tai Chi emphasizes slow, simple motions to improve balance and overall health. Because of room size this class is limited to 25 participants.
