Getting Started with Computers I

This is the first of a two part class that will introduce you to the components of a computer, operating systems, computer programs and applications, and how to use the mouse and the keyboard to give commands and receive information from the computer. The two classes will also cover the basics of creating, editing, saving and printing files. We will be using the Windows 7 Operating System in a Desktop system. 

Prerequisites: None, though a basic knowledge of a typewriter keyboard is helpful.
Time: 2 hours

Getting Started with Computers II

This is the second of a two part class that will introduce you to the components of a computer, operating systems, computer programs and applications, and how to use the mouse and the keyboard to give commands and receive information from the computer. The two classes will also cover the basics of creating, editing, saving and printing files. We will be using the Windows 7 Operating System in a Desktop system.
Prerequisites: Participation in Getting Started with Computers I and a basic knowledge of a typewriter keyboard are strongly encouraged.
Time: 2 hours

Internet Basics: The World Wide Web

This class will introduce you to fundamental procedures for manipulating searches on the Internet--how to locate a browser, start and run a search engine, direct and evaluate information searches, and how to keep the useful information at hand. Although we will take a brief look at information from private webs, the class will concentrate upon the use of the World Wide Web. Prerequisites: Getting Started with Computers, strong keyboard and mouse skills.
Time: 2.25 hours

Online Safety & Privacy

This class will present an overview of how to protect your computer and yourself while working online. The topics discussed will include anti-virus programs, spyware, firewalls, cookies, Trojan horses, phishing, pharming and other email scams, and various malware. You will learn how to spot potential problems and how to protect your computer.
Prerequisites: It is recommended that you have a basic understanding of the use of The Internet and the World Wide Web.
Time: 2 hours

Word: Getting Started

This class introduces Microsoft Word 2010.You will learn how to use the Menu and Tool bars, Spell Check, the Help menu, create and save documents, open existing documents, and copy and paste techniques. Prerequisites: Getting Started with Computers I&II or equivalent computer skills, strong keyboard and mouse skills.
Time: 2.25 hours

Word: Formatting & Style Sheets

Using the foundations learned in Word: Getting Started, this class covers the basic style and formatting tools available in Microsoft Word 2010 which allow you to create and save endless style variations and control your styles with greater precision.
Prerequisite: Word: Getting Started, Getting Started with Computers or equivalent computer skills, strong keyboard and mouse skills.
Time: 2 hours

Word: Tables

This class offers an introduction to the many functions of the Word 2010 Table tool. We will create and modify tables as visual organization of materials as well as well as create and modify tables for working with simple calculations. We recommend that you have completed our previous Word 2010 classes or have excellent knowledge of the Word Office System as well as the Windows 7 operating system.
Prerequisites: We recommend that you have completed our previous Word 2010 classes or have excellent knowledge of the Word Office System as well as the Windows 7 operating system.
Time: 2 hours

Word: Templates

This continuation of our Word series covers information and exercises on the creation, modification, and deletion of templates whether from existing documents or created from scratch.
Prerequisites: It is strongly recommended that the student have taken our Word Getting Started Word and our Formatting and Style Sheets classes or have strong keyboard and mousing skills as well as skill in using the Word 2010/Windows 7 program combination.
Time: 2 hours

File Management

Electronic files contain everything from the commands that make computers run to the information you find and create. Knowing how to find, save, move, share, create, and use these files is a critical skill at all levels of computer use. This class will cover how to create and save files, navigate through the files on your computer, recognize different file types as well as how to delete or retrieve files. We will also discuss the different storage options you will have for your files.
Prerequisites: It is recommended that you have taken our Word: Getting Started class and/or have a good working knowledge of that program.
Time: 2 hours

Getting Signed Up for Gmail

Don't have a Gmail account? Don't worry; we can help you get set up with an account! If you are planning on attending "Getting Started with Email" you will need to have a Gmail account, and the instructor will not have time to get you signed up during that class, so take advantage of this opportunity and get signed up!

Prerequisites: It is highly recommended that you have taken our Internet Basics: The World Wide Web class as well as our File Management Class.
Time: 1 Hour or Less

Getting Started with Gmail

To get by in today's technologically advanced world it is important to be able to communicate with others in a variety of ways. Email has been the staple form of electronic communication for years now and it doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. In this class you will learn how to compose and send emails, attach and open attachments, as well as add and manage contacts. A valid Gmail account is required, as well as a basic understanding of how to use a mouse and keyboard.

Prerequisites: It is highly recommended that you have taken our Internet Basics: The World Wide Web class as well as our File Management Class.
Time: 2 Hours
